Stairs are huge obstacles to physically disabled students. There is no elevator in Sabumguwan Building or Jayeonguwan Building 1. It means students must use stairs to attend a class.
Park Heun Ha, a student who attends lectures in SabumGuwan said, "Climbing stairs is a pain." In her opinion, it is hard to go to the lecture room even for students who don't have a physical disability. So is it possible to build a new elevator in those buildings? To find an answer and get more information, Seowon News asked the Facility Safety Team of Seowon University.
-SN : Is it possible to build a new elevator in Sabumguwan and Jayeonguwan Building 1?
-FST: It is impossible. We built new elevators in Jayeonguwan Building 2 and the Administration Building because there was enough space to install them. However, in Sabumguwan and Jayeonguwan Building 1, there is no space. So we can't do it.
There are limitations to helping physically disabled students to some facilities. However, the Disabled Students Supporting Center can directly assist them by helping them get to classes in those buildings. The Seowon News asked that center to know more details about that support.
-SN : Is there any service provided to help physically disabled students?
-DSSC : When there is disabled student, we ask the academic support team, a teaching assistant and professors  to change the lecture room to the lower floor. This year, a severely disabled student entered the Computer Engineering Department and we asked for a lecture room change. However, it was impossible to change the classroom because students of that department should use the classroom with computers in that building. It was impossible to change the classroom. In such cases, disabled student helpers can help that students go where they need to on campus. In addition to the two buildings there are lots of stairs to reach the school cafeteria too. We set up a wheelchair lift on the back side of the cafeteria. Our center is trying to accommodate the needs of our disabled students as much as we can.
The Facility Safety Team and Disabled Students Supporting Center are trying to help disabled students as much as possible. Look around the campus and you can see their efforts as they work to help make Seowon University a better place for everyone.
