Hello everybody! My name is Tony Miles and I teach English as a Professor here at Seowon University and I am also a recent addition to The Seowon News team where I help to edit the section of the newspaper you are now reading.
I have been teaching at Universities in Korea for a number of years, but this was the first time I had been asked to work for a University newspaper. My immediate reaction was that I would be more than happy to do so. As a person I am bookish, follow news stories, and work with language a lot, so quickly felt comfortable in my role helping to edit articles.
My role as co-foreign editor is to read articles, offer suggestions, make changes, and as a collaborative process, help polish a submitted article into the finished piece you see in the newspaper.
It can be challenging at times, but also interesting. I enjoy seeing the development of a piece from start to finish and I am sure everybody involved, especially the reporters who work so hard, feel a lot of satisfaction seeing the final result which is the newspaper in finished form.
My hope for the future of The Seowon News is for the continued creation of content that is topical and informative, covers a range of issues both local, national and international, and is of course always interesting and sometimes even fun for the reader.
